Peralada Castle Library opens the ‘Photographic Archive of Palaci’ exhibition this Saturday at 11 am. The display offers visitors the chance to travel back to the early days of photography and gain a better understanding of how it evolved. With pieces from the Empordà Technical Museum, the exhibition includes a selection of albumen prints, most notably the Àlbum dels Comtes [Album of the Counts], made between 1886 and 1893 by Count Tomàs de Rocabertí.

Visitors to the exhibition, which is curated by Inés Padrosa, will have the opportunity to view material relating to the beginnings of photography, such as optical viewfinders and the evolution of the technique from 1876 up until the 1960s. Outstanding among the items is a series of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century cameras and various pieces of photographic material such as negatives, glass plates, stereoscopic plates, glass slides and acetate negatives, as well as ephemeral material such as the printing wrappers of various commercial businesses.

The Peralada Castle Museum and, especially, its glass collection joins the celebration of the "International Year of Glass" during the last 2022.

Although the glass collection can be enjoyed, to a large extent, within the visit to the Museum, this year an unprecedented area of the collection located on the main floor of the Castle will be opened to the public. In these rooms, the collector Miguel Mateu Pla located his first glass purchases, so we will immerse ourselves in the museography proposed at the beginning of the 20th century inside a 14th century castle.

This visit will take place on Saturdays, at 12 noon with prior reservation contacting by email: infomuseo@grupperalada.com. The maximum capacity is 10 people. Price: €10.00.

Entrance: Plaza del Carmen (same door of the Museum). Punctuality is essential since the door will open and close at 12:00.
